Did anyone have Mr. Blair for French? He was a nice man but when he asked us something he always gave us the answer in German, French and Spanish. Made it really hard to learn French. I remember one time we all brought pillows to his class trying to send him a point. Please liven up this class... LMAO

Mr. Lebaron was a class act in Geography my final year, John Chapman was a great track and cross-country coach (Little know fact is he was the Wide Receiver for Uni. Toronto Blues..he had wheels too), Terry Boyd for Junior Basketball , Mr. Marshall in English, Anyone remember Stormin' Norm Lehigh! in English, nuttier than a fruitcake, but a very good teacher. Tom Potter was a suberb basketball coach, he got a very short team (short on talent and height) into the COSSA playoffs in 77, only to go down to Moira SS and the big Burrhead..., those were the days...

It's funny to see the impact of teachers on students from the different eras, 1970s versus say the 90s. I think BSS changed a lot when the student population started to decline - remember all the rumors the school would be shutdown to save money and the school boards would take it over as the head office? Then the junior high kids became part of the school. The loss of Grade 13 (or later known as OAC - waz that?). Working out in Alberta or BC, it's funny to mention to my high school coach contacts that I went to Grade 13. Kids and teachers look at me perplexed. What's Grade 13? And BC and Alberta students have departmental exams still, put together by someone in Calgary or Edmonton who never taught the course. Ernie Pope was a fantastic table tennis player as I recall. Just passed his Grade 12 match course with 52 per cent. Never took any of the Grade 13 math courses. Ugh! Ron Harris was my best math teacher...I actually did well, though sitting beside Andrea Tufts was tough when you had a big crush on the petite classmate. Took me a long time to "ask her out" to a Friday night school dance. She had to say no because she worked that night at K-Mart. Remember our British visitor in the science department, the Dr. teacher? Coleman? He always reminded me of someone from the Monty Python group. Mrs. Nehru was a great teacher, though you couldn't under stand her. Varky was a great racquet sports player. Angelini taught me economics, which I barely passed. His course had math in it. I should have taken the accounting "bird course". My low eco mark hurt my average in Grade 13. Was Mrs. keebler the former art teacher Egan? Mr. Baxer? Didn't he drown in the B of Q when he committed suicide? Memories.

Didnt Mr. Coleman marry one of the art teachers at Bayside?

Was it not an English teacher, not Miss Egan, who taught me in art class. I though she was a wisp of a woman who taught out of the English department....not art. But then time begins to play tricks on your memory, eh? I know a lot of the girls had crushes on Mr. Chapman and Mr. J.....math teacher with the afro. You'd see him down a Dolans in our Grade 13 year, dancing up a storm. The only married couples I knew of were the Tubbs and the two gym teachers. But that was during my tenure at BSS...the late 70s.

Doc Coleman married Miss Mole who was Theatre Arts teacher. So I guess the married couples were the Coleman's, the Tubbs', and my personal favourites, Terry and Bev Boyd. Great to see the Xavier crew on here... I remember you all. BTW Jules how was it in the Xavier house with your four good looking sisters and all their friends hanging around! LOL.

Mr. Gosse....I always lost the vote in our democratic house, thanks to my late father's rule. That meant on Saturday night's I'd be in the basement to watch NHL hockey on the B&W TV, while four younger siblings had the big colour TV upstairs to watch Love Boat, Fantasy Island...those 70s shows if you can recall. The first time I brought a g/f home, Lisa Mills, it was embarrassing....my sisters caused me grief in front of her. Ugh! You played sports like us Xaviers, too. You were a skinny guy like me (took me years to finally put some muscle mass on, and that was due to being a lumber jack and cutting trees down in the north working for the MNR ). The siblings didn't really have a lot of their g/f's hang out at the PMQ. I did have a big crush on Teresa's friend, who I called the radical, Laurie K. Sister's friends weren't really my type I suppose looking back. Good observation on who Dr. Coleman married...not the art teacher, but the drama teacher Miss Mole. I'd had forgotten we had such a teacher. Then again, I was a jock, so didn't take any arty courses like drama or music with Mr. Begg. Jane is our last sister to get signed up. What are you doing in Ottawa - military or civilian?

Jules... I think at one point or another I probably had a crush on each of your sisters (shhhh don't tell them). I am civilian in Ottawa, Resources Protection Manager for the Gilmore group of companies. Good to hear from you. I remember the day you had the concussion. I was taking the late bus that night for basketball practice and everyone was wondering why you were wandering around aimlessly. Kudos to you as well for actually inventing the indoor baseball rules for Bayside intramurals. Of course Hastings House always had the best team with me, Howie Dell, Jeff Diamond, Sharon Seliga (spelling?), and a host of other talented athletes!!!

Hi...won't tell my sisters, but they'll read your words just the same. Good memory for a Baby Boomer, to recall my concussion. Indoor baseball was always fun. Bay house and Ontario house always seemed to battle for top bragging rights with intramurals. Larry Arsenault was the key cog in the athletic wheel for that house. I was with Bay of course, the Barracudas. I think Teresa was in Hastings; Carroll went to Trent and Morgan and Jane started out with Ontario house. Did you start a family? Larry and I are still bachelors. I just got a few emails from him this morning. He's been at Ryerson since 1978, doing athletic therapy until 1992. Now he's in an office doing projects and building stuff. I met Howie Dell at a York U football game when he was at McMaster. Then I covered him playing football in the CFL with the Argos. Now he's a trainer and actor on the west coast. He has a website. I think his sister lives on Vancouver Island. His older brother was in Sweden, married to a native of that country, when we last met during our 20th anny in 1991. Morgan always had the guys drooling over her. Teresa ended up marrying a THS grad, MPP Hugh O'Neil's (Liberal) son David. A great guy. They have three girls. Morgan, a boy and girl. Jane, a boy. Carroll, one of each. Do you keep in contact with many former BSSers? Will you attend at 35th anny? I know I'll ensure I'll be back in Ontario for it...give me an excuse to also see Teresa and stay with her in the backyard - use the trailer she got for a present, which she uses during many soccer tournament excursions with her three M daughters - Michelle, Marleigh and Makenna. Enjoying the sunshine and 3 C weather in central Alberta today. Cheers. Keep those posts coming. And pass on this cyberspace site to anyone who was a Red Devil back in our times...the best of times, good times!

Hey Jules, Married with 3 kids here (16, 13, and 12). I am still in touch via e-mail and phone with Howie Dell. Howie's still a bachelor. If there is a 35th anniversary reunion you better believe that I will be there. So many people I would love to catch up with.

I was fortunate to have some great teachers at BSS
Mr Marshall.. I hung out with his sons..
Mr Leiter.. if he can teach me Physics he can teach anyone.
Mr Dell.. I always enjoyed his classes and the way he challenged his students.
Mr Zikopolous (yes I mangled that name).. I had him for french every year... he has some great stories.
Does anyone remember the english teacher who used to correspond with Alex Liefson from Rush? His daughter was in my cohort... her name was Pam.
Nevermind.. that braincell just kicked in.. it was Mr Ingram. In gr 13 he allowed us to do some crazy presentations instead of writting papers.

Did Mr Ingram's wife teach Home Ec - Brenda Ingram? If that's who you are referring to, he is still in this area and is currently a member of council for Quinte West (aka Trenton)representing Sidney Ward (previously Sidney Township)
