Does anyone remember the old juke box? cheers Lance

Does anyone remember steaking was in? I remember I think it was Joe shields (steaked on the football field)....or naked jumping off the quarry cliff? Never did it myself.

Lance, you mean "streaking"! Remember Ray Stevens song? Did we have a lot of streaking back then @ BSS?

YES.... my point exactly.... I was a little pre occupied during my time at Bayside. There were the cheer leaders, The girls on the "A" list and several others who should have been on that list (in my opinion) A teenager with hormones run-a-muck... how is a guy supposed to learn to spell or anything else with distractions looking good at every corner. Then there is the time I spent in the gym trying to be the jock I thought I was. I even got kicked out of school for a day or two for wearing my gym clothes to class. Wouldn't you love to go back for a day in grade 10 or 11 knowing what you know now?? lolol hmmm? cheers Lance

Would I ever like to go back now. Think of all that we know now and didnt back then. I would have gone after what I wanted. Omg Lance I can so see you going to class in your gym clothes. Funny how we look at things now and they are so funny but back then they seemed the norm.

ADIDAS shorts, red and blue were the norm. And remember Bata's running shoes. BSS jocks would test them at the school to see how they held up. I think Neil Harder would take his bike out and drag them on the pavement...or was that Alan Dale? My mind is fading....but I'm back as I recall Lance showing off his torso with a half-T-shirt and the ADIDAS shorts...then being expelled for being attired in gym clothing. Lance, you were easily distracted by the girls...is that why you kept taking math over and over...numbers, tangent and Y = MX + B....all a blur when Pope, Kurkoski, Pordham and Harris taught the fundamentals in math class, eh! Now the kids wear these baggy shorts, often pulling them down to the butt crack, though you get about two inches of underwear showing (thongs for the girls) during basketball or soccer season. I see it as a referee, often telling the boys to pull up their shorts, plus tuck the shirts in. For some reason, this new generation, our future, prefer not to dress with the shirts tucked in, whether dressed up or playing sports. I'm the bad guy as a referee. Guys or girls go up for a lay-up in the paint, their shirts not tucked in rise up, and you get an eyeful of pierced belly buttons, plus you know the name brand of the boxers worn by the male basektball players. That is if they aren't playing "commando". Remember pulling our classmates ADIDAS track pants down in the gym...that was a craze around the same time as "streaking" (not steaking Lance). I had my red track pants dropped during a co-ed intramural volleyball game...I think I turned as red as the pants...it was co-ed after all. But I was wearing my Fruit of the Loom underwear fortunately. I know a few guys and girls got caught without under garments.....mooned! I recall guys sitting on either side of the girls door to the gym, and catching unsuspecting female victims, who'd walk out, pause for a moment to ensure they were noticed, then in one swoop, scream and look for the their track pants by their ankles...too funny. And later, track pants switched to the grey baggy sweats, with the tie-up to ensure they didn't drop. I call the shorts the kids wear.....baggy diapers. Some kids playing soccer don't like the issued shorts, so will only wear them, but have their own baggy shorts underneath. Your thoughts guys and gals of BSS.....you, too, Lance.

Wow! not hard to tell you are in the newspaper business Jules... there were so many flowers in that peice I was going to plant my computer lolol You have a gift of gab... oh and Jules I took all those math classes to make sure I was completely versed in the complexity of the X and Y axis theory. Gym class and extra, after school sports were two of the main reasons I went to school. I can recall x-country skiing in the winter from my house on Whites Rd. It was a good thing I was an althete in my own mind. Do you remember running down to the railway tracks for gym class (and back) the kids today still run it, I think, but most walk or go part way and wait then turn around and walk back with the others so as not to come in too early. I guess with the new constitution in place you can't force the kids to do anything.... cheers Lance

I think they made teenagers now the government. I have two still at home.. okay well one, the other has discovered the opposite sex so she is here for bed time and not much else, but I would love to be able to order them to clean their rooms, take care of the pets we have that they wanted, and to learn that dishes go in the sink or dishwasher not on the table or counter. Can't figure out kids these days, they can walk their clothes and dishes to the counter or bathroom, but cant seem to find the sink or laundry hamper. Now back in my day as a teenager that would mete out a grounding.. OMG I sound like my mom now..UGGHHHH

AND THAT, YOUR HONOUR, IS WHY I KILLED THEM.... LOLOL I don't have kids sooo I can't comment on the situations you find yourself currently in.... let me say though that if I had kids it would be different regardless of the laws. ( I know, I know, I don't have kids so I couldn't possibly understand) We were all disciplined as kids and we turned out ok. We were grounded as necessary and received a straping or two when it was required. If we were supposed to do the dishes we did them. We may not have liked it but we did it. I think we, as a society, have become affraid to be parents. We fear the wrath of government crackdown when we use discipline to aid in teaching our children respect and right from wrong. Don't misunderstand me, I am not talking about abuse but a spanking is still a good deterant. We require structure and discipline in society to keep things in order, to keep us safe and to prevent total anarchy. Where has society gone wrong, where did we drop the ball when it comes to our kids. We are failing... when a 5 yr old child gets off his bike to have a pee on your nieghbours car, you yell at him to go home to do that, and he turns and tells you to #@!? off.....there is a problem! (true story) Who runs the home? The parents or the kids? When a child says "You can't touch me, I know the law and my rights" My response is to ask the child if he/ she knows how long it takes the police to get there? They defiently respond " They'll be here in 10 minutes" That is where I point out to the child You are mine until they get here!! Try that one and watch the look on the childs face. Be a friend to your kids.. Teach and guide them but be a parent first! They will look back as we do and thank you for it. This, of course, is only my opinion..... I should write a book... How to raise kids" by Lance. cheers Lance

Having two kids, ages 14 and 11, I now know how my parents felt - and yes I do find myself repeating the same words my parents said and thinking that maybe, just maybe, they were right! I try to teach my kids the lessons that I was taught mainly that there is a consequence to everything you do and say. My youngest once picked a flower from the neighbors garden and I made him take it back and apologize to him! I have also already told my kids that the minute they are finished with school they WILL get a job (no matter how low paid!) and pay rent at home. My 14 yr old does wear his shorts half way down is butt - I have threatened to pull them off completely if I catch him that way in public. I have also tried to teach them the golden rule "do unto others like you would have done unto yourself(??)" Hopefully they will eventually learn to show respect to others(although most of the time they do show respect to their elders if not always their parents!)

We do the same Heather. Just last week my almost 13 year old TOLD me he was going to a dance. I TOLD him that unless he gives me names and times that he is not going....... I do not believe in kids running around outside at all times of the night just b/c we live in a small town and it COULD be safe. Thankfully I stopped buying Licenced clothing and whatnot when they were small so unless it's on sale they don't get it and they don't ask! Thankfully they aren't into "style" that much like alot of kids are but it's ok with them. I have taught them that they should be happy with what they have and not rely on others. We share a lawn with our neighbours and my kids know that unless there is a ball over there they need to get, they stay on their side. IT's as simple as that. Funny how sometimes I feel like I am the meanest parent out there!LOL!
