Hi Kathy! Debra DeSilva (nee Neily) here!
We were posted to Trenton twice (61-64) and (69-75). When we first lived in PMQ's we were at 55 Regina Crescent, the second time we lived near the bottom of the runway (near the DQ) next to the Bay of Quinte, and moved to 12B Bell Irving about 1974, and I think we were neighbours!
I attended Trenton High in 1972 and 1973, and Bayside in 1974 and 1975.
Do you remember how Bayside had to share Trenton High during 1973 when the snow collapsed the atrium in the newly built Bayside School? If you graduated in '77, you may have attended THS. Trenton High had the school from 8:30 to 6:00, Monday and Wednesday, and Friday afternoons, and Bayside had Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings until the school was repaired. It sure was a sweet deal for Bayside having a long weekend every week! But I didn't mind our schedule either - it gave me a chance to sleep in every other day.
My most embarassing memory happened to me at Bayside when I accidentally tucked the back of my dress into my pantyhose and walked through the entire school (through the English area, Library and hallway down to the Tech Wing) before discovering it - someone told me that my picture ended up in the yearbook (!)
I just found this website last night and it totally brought smiles to my face to think of my days back in Trenton and to see all the comments posted!
I'm in the Vancouver area now.... In '75 I travelled here on an Air Force "flip", leaving 6 feet of snow behind. When I arrived in Vancouver, the grass was green - I could not believe it! We get very little snow here but if you like it you can always get to a ski mountain and be on the slopes in less than an hour!
I have a lot of good memories of Trenton, though.... like shovelling off huge sections of the Bay of Quinte and skating for hours and hours, and of Bain Park and Turtle Point, and yarding in snapping turtles on the end of a stick.
I used to work at the Canteen next to the Yukon Lodge, and as well, the one the next to the Gate at the Terminal in the summertime. When I graduated I worked as a civilian on the base at Southside in the clerical department, and then as the secretary at the Gliding School for Cadets in Picton. When that job was over, I got a job at the brand new K-Mart - that was such a big deal!
My highschool sweetheart was Gary Husch.... I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about him, and that's how I wandered into this site.
What were some of your memories, Kathy?
