Great shots from Trenton. Sure has changed since those fires way back when. But I'm to understand the downtown shopping is dying? Lots of Tim Hortons there? Quite the contrast to the busy and bustling downtowns in Courtenay and Comox here on Vancouver Island. Box stores have not hurt them. Try to find parking. UGH!

Trenton in the summertime is very pretty yes. The downtown is run down and lots of empty building and stores for rent. The one thing I find really nice is the marina in the summer. There are currently 3 timmes in Trenton and one on the airforce base. I think alot of us should have pooled our funds back in the 70's and opened one together. We would be stinking rich now.

Elaine - how do we post photos to this site?
I've been sent some, plus found more BSS images from the late 70s in my own vault after unpacking.
Can't find anything in the administrator files to guide me.
Can you help with directions.

Jules I downloaded mine thru a site called photobucket. You simply sign up and then follow the walk thru and it will tell u how to downlaod them and add them to the site. Mind you, you have to keep the photos on ur computer somewhere and not delete them. I saved mine is a file and marked it as Moms. Its really easy Jules.

I was in Trenton yesterday, the first since I took these pictures, and discovered that they tore down the old Woolworths store and the parking garage that was beside in it the back entrance. Just a big empty lot now, no idea what they are putting in there. The store had been used by a liquaditor but they moved to the old Dominion store on Dundas by the Beer Store. The new Timmies is still under construction on Division Street. And there is now a huge Pharma Save on the corner opposite the Old Dominion Store. Lots of construction going on in Trenton.

Gee another Timmies in Trenton, just what they need. Is the one downtown still there? I heard it was being closed soon because of hangouts.

I went to BSS from 1989 to 1994, and I am one of those people who is reading and not talking, so I finally am responding to some of the questions being raised about Trenton and what's going on. Yes, there is a new Timmies being built by the Liquor Store, but it's replacing the one by the Marina, since it has become quite the "not so nice" hang out place. As for the old Woolworth's that got torn down, apparently Shopper's Drug Mart is building a new place there...so who knows what's going to go where they are presently located. I'll never understand Trenton. Why are businesses just (building and) moving? We need some new stores, like a Costco, or expand the Giant Tiger since it's so small. Anyway, I thought I would put my two cents in.

Jen, nee Innes, of the BSS 90s crowd. Don't be just a reader. Be a participant. Add your thoughts. Recruit your friends - they are all young and not getting old like us baby boomers who are nearing the five-decade mark (76-78). Time does fly as you leave high school and start a career/family. Can't believe I've been writing and taking photographs for newspaper for almost a quarter century since I left BSS. I think Mr. Ted Harris is in his final year as principal there, or retired after the 2005-06 school term. And Mrs. Boyd in the library (she was phys-ed when I was there along with her hubbie). So, get on the ball and represent the early 90s crowd here. We'd like to hear your thoughts about the school and life in general, eh! I see you must be still living in Trenton (or with amalgamation, Quinte West). So, you weren't an air force brat at the base like the Xavier clan? My sister Teresa is still there and her daughter, who decided to go to the catholic school in Trenton vs BSS, works at Giant Tiger. What's happening to the old Tango Hotel downtown? That's RCMP jargon for Tim Hortons. The cops here also refer to it as DHP (or Dead Hockey Player).

Hi Jules,
I know, I know...I need to start participating more, and wow, it looks like I am! LOL
I do live in Trenton...Quinte West. I actually am a Base brat and lived in those lovely PMQs for yrs. My dad retired here, well semi-retired. He's a Class A reservist here on base, which means he only works 12 days a month. I did leave the area for a couple of years. I went to Lakehead U. (in Thunder Bay), then I came back and got my diploma from Loyalist College. I tried the Toronto thing, my mom lives there, but that didn't work out. I now work on the Base, civie of course, as a Technical Writer. Have been doing that for over 8 years. Oh, by the way, for anyone who knows Greg Turcotte, he works about 3 steps away from my cubicle. So if you want me to harass him, I certainly don't mind (it will have to wait until mid-Dec though as he is away on course). ;D
Anyway, after that long speel, I'm not sure what they will be doing with the old Timmies once the new one opens. Knowing Trenton, it will probably sit there for years, then someone may buy it, then that business will flop. So on and so forth.
It's funny reading some of the old memories from you "baby boomers", especially about some of the teachers because I had some of the same ones, i.e, Mr. Dell (history teacher of course), Mr. Begg, who I see once a year at my Mess Dinners (he plays in the 8 Wg Band), Mrs. Boyd who was librarian when I went to BSS, and there are many more, but too many to list. Mr. Harris was one of the VPs when I went to BSS.
On that note, I must be signing off. I could keep writing, but break time is pretty much ending...right now. TTFN! Jen
