Do we have our first teacher on board here? Mr. Dell, I had you for law in 90 or 91. I think that was it though. Hope you are doing well.

Ahhhh Howard, you got me on that one... I didn't know your Dad did a stint as VP. How is he doing these days? Trish, that earlier reply was from BSS alum Howard Dell, one of Mr. Cliff Dell's 4 kids.

ooops, I only knew his daughter. I just assumed Howard was his first name. Howard seemed to fit as his first name. Sorry Howard. Thanks for the correction.

Howard - remember the students always referred to Mr. Daley as the "narc", as though he was put in high schools every few years to clean up a supposed drug problem. Compared to what teachers, administrators are dealing with now, meth, crack et al, it was a picnic back in the 70s. I can recall students passing around a joint outside the school before a dance....like a circle of kids getting high before the dance. Or a quick beer. And those students who smuggled in a mickey of vodka or gin, then downing it in the washroom. Quickly getting sick as they had not eaten before quaffing 12 ounces. Southern Comfort was also popular and sent a number of students to the hospital. Too funny thinkiing back on it. Cherry Whiskey was good, too. I still have it on occassion, but this time with tonic water.

Sis - didn't Harris retire a few years back? As I recall, there's no longer any teachers at BSS who would be associated with our 70s era. They'd all be long retired based on years of experience and age combined to hit a certain target mark for retirement. Harris went from teaching math, to that little office beside the art room where he did councilling. Then to the "office" running the school. And the open concept was great...versus the current change back to "classrooms." That's what gave BSS its distinctive character.

Remember when - the snow storm of the decade (70s at least). When we got so much school, us base brats and those who took the bus from Bata, Frankfurt, Glenn Miller et al, were stuck at the school overnight. The snow was deep, with winds causing whiteouts and huge drifts. The bus area at the back looked like it was a scene out of the high Arctic. Playing sports in the gym, vollyeball mainly, at 3 a.m. Catching a few winks on the carpet up in the study area above the library. Or the Grade 13 room. But who could really sleep. Fries and gravy quickly ran out. I think some folks nearby brought food in via their snowmobiles. Memories of the winter storm that didn't keep us away from school, but kept us in. Thought I'd share and pique some other former classmates' memories.
