In Alberta, where we have lots of gas/oil in the ground, it's $1.05 per litre. When I arrived here in Jan. '98, I was paying 54 cents/litre. Go figure....what are the prices in other parts of Canada? SUV's and big trucks (gas gozzlers) won't be selling at the dealerships. Get the small Japanese cars. I know the gas prices don't seem to bother some cowboys who have huge trucks. Even diesel is expensive. I head it's pretty steep on the Rock, as well as some parts of BC - interior and Vancouver Island. Should put a curb on a lot of summer travel. Moreover, the cost of gas has saw airline ticket prices also go way up!

What happened to Sandra Vout my era at BSS? She was last, as I recall, doing dentristry (like her dad?) in Trenton. She was a big runner with my sisters Morgan and Jane wearing the Red Devils' colours. Does anyone run across Lance "Romance" Darlow in the Trenton area?

Sandy Vout is still doing denture stuff in a house/office behind the Trenton beer store. Have not run into here in several years. I saw Lance a year or two ago working at the Ford dealership cleaning off the cars. I had my car in for servicing and chatted with him for a few minutes. I used to see Andre Arens at Loyalist College, but have not seen him this year. Not sure if he was a student or working there.

Seems alot of people are in Nova Scotia or have been there as visitors. My family is from Nova Scotia and I am the only one currently not living there. That being said where are we all orginally from? I was back in NS last year and the small area I come from has not changed in the last 17 years. Funny when you move into a bigger area the things you come to expect that other areas of the country dont have. We have Sunday shopping here in Ontario but NS only has it during the Christmas season in the some areas.

BC as I recall was the first part of Canada to offer Sunday shopping. Ontario came on board years later after debate. It's the norm in the rest of Canada except for the east coast, most notably Nova Scotia. My friends there, former military brats, too, say they don't mind. You do have six days to shop. And it's not like Nova Scotia's populace all go to church on Sunday. It's just that businesses don't seem to see the need to hire and keep stores open on Sunday - it's like getting booze on Sunday in BC. When it's government run, you can't because they close stores. You have to go to a pub and buy off-sales, or to an attached "liquor/beer" store attached to that pub. But you pay higher prices. Alberta went privatized a few years back and now Wetaskiwin has a dozen outlets where you can buy booze, 7 days a week. When the Alberta government ran the stores, there was one per community. It's like our pawn shops here....way too many for a city of 11,000...seems there are more booze stores and pawn shops compared to a place for buying shoes or clothes. I guess you only need one Wal-Mart. Speaking of Sunday shopping, off to Co-op to buy fertilizer, gas can, and grass seed for some yard work today. Sunny Sunday in Alberta.

Hey there again... I saw Ron Bell some time ago ( Paul Dassylvas funeral) and vowed to call, I got a hold of him the other day and gave him the info on this site and the pending reunion. He seemed excited about it and I think he is going to try to contact others to do the same. cheers Lance

I never really left the area, as far as living.
I am married, and I have 2 beautiful girls.
I reside in Murray Ward, of Quinte West, and I work in the construction and Home Renovation (for the past 12 years).
My wife keeps me busy constantly changing the house (she changes paint colour as quick as most people re-arrange their furniture), but that has even slowed, as we are planning to build next year.
This is a great area, close to everything, family and friends as well.
I used to run an "International Charity", assisting the education of the children of the Dominican Republic (which I started with the assistance of Lyndsey Jones, of London), yet I had to reluctantly resign as time was becoming a factor.
Life has been very good.
I enjoy my work, and my family.
I wish that everyone could be as lucky.
Cheers Jimmy

Having checked on GradFinder, I'm perplexed that more BSS alumni have not found their way here to begin sharing memories with their peers. I see a lot from the 70s, early 80s. I guess the 90s and 2000 classes are not far removed from the high school to think they, too, have memories. Will be an interesting reunion at the school to mark its 35th. Where are the former teachers sharing their memories of us...on the post? Maybe a call to Mr. Harris, current principal and popular 70s teacher might pique the interest of his colleagues now retired or moved to other Quinte schools. And it's still Trenton to me. Not Quinte West....with the big amalgamations ...like the GTA. Good thing CFB Trenton survived military cuts......if not, Trenton would be a ghost town. The base - shopping at Canex. Does it still exist?

Good thing CFB Trenton survived military cuts......if not, Trenton would be a ghost town. The base - shopping at Canex. Does it still exist? The "CanEx" does still exist, and is open to anyone who wishes to use it, but it has lost that "appeal" that it used to have years ago. You are dead on with the above remark as well, as "Trenton" has relied heavily on 8 Wing over the years to survive, and without the financial input that the Military families bring, along with employment, this "City" would be in a big hurt. Business is getting better in the Quinte area, and expansion both in Belleville, Quinte West, and the surrounding area is on the rise. The latest developments here, have been the new City Hall/Library, and now the prospect of a "Community Recreational Centre" for all of Quinte West. This will bring many a debate on location, and of course cost. 3 potential locations... 1 - Batawa 2 - Downtown Trenton (Why?) 3 - Tremour Lake I feel that the last would be the ideal spot (actually, the best location would have been on Monogram Road...but hey) as it would be more centrally located to the greater part of the population of the city. For those of you not in the know, Tremour Lake is now the old "water shed/reservoir" at the corner of Wooler Road and Telephone Road. They are developing it into a subdivision as well, and a park. Thats the news for now... Cheers Jimmy

Thanks for the updates from Trenton, or should I say Quinte West, Jimmy. My sister Teresa, with Trenton High's track behind her house, keeps me abreast of changes to the community we grew up in as teens. I still enjoy the Domtar smell when I visit...a unique aroma in the air, telling you're back home. I didn't know there was a Tremour Lake. Bay of Quinte, yes, but a lake? Debate is good, but you know the brains voted in by the community won't have the best interests served when they cast a vote. It'll come down to a developer that's best served those in power, not the taxpayers. I see it all the time when I've covered city councils in different parts of Canada. And you wonder why some communities prosper and flourish; others digress and force people to look elsewhere. Kudos, however, to Quinte area looking to add a major sports/recreation complex. Something the kids can use (and adults, too).

I heard recently that Ron Harris is retiring, so may want to contact him soon before he leaves the school. Not sure there are many teachers from way back when still at Bayside. I am quite sure Mrs Boyd is still working in the library but Mr Boyd has retired. Mr Tubbs is still invovled with the school in a coaching capacity-basketball. Have to get the word out to the teachers somehow. I hear about Mrs Baxter occasionally thru a colleague as her daughter does competitive sports wtih/against Mrs Baxters daughter. We will have to use all resources/avenues to locate some of our old teachers and get them out to a reunion.

Well...it's been a long while since I've thought about BSS. I didn't like it when I was there and was doing everything to just get out (which I now wish I could re-do) but it has been great reading about everyones' lives since they have left. I still haven't come across anyone but the Xavier clan that I remember from school. I now live in Windsor, ON and have been for 7 years. I left BSS in Jan '82 and didn't have the chance to go to College so of course, living in Batawa I worked at Bata Engineering. I left there and have since worked for the government. I married in '97 and moved to Memphis, TN for two years (and yes, I did visit Graceland several times). It had to be the worst two years of my life, as my husband was diagnosed with Leukemia and the outlook was not good....but he's been in remission for many years and we will celebrate our 9th year wedding anniversary in August and hope to celebrate many more. We moved to Windsor in late '99 to be closer to family and so my husband could still commute to work in the US. We have no children (due to my husband's bout with leukemia) but we have two cats and are enjoying life as it comes. We go home to the Quinte Area several times a year to visit family. I have been back to my home village of Batawa several times and I guess they had a Bata Reunion of sorts several years ago, which I was sorry not to be able to attend. I have to admit, since having moved away I have not kept in contact with old friends...but it's great to revisit the past of BSS...keep up the great reads!! I will visit often and catch up on the news....

Hi all-well it has been so long since I saw bayside- not what I'd call a pretty life but hey it's mine.In 1980 my mother passed away after a short battle with cancer-obviously this sent us all scrambling. My Dad found a new woman and moved her in and that was when I left,1981. Spent a year in kelowna with Mom's sister and then on to Edmonton place of my birth had never lived there thought I would try, during that time I hitchhiked back home only to find my oder brother was dead-murdered in Saskatoon and Dad was in the hospital with terminal cancer so I lost it to say the least, went to Jasper for a year then back to edmonton and on to vancouver during the expo years 85-88. I got into the wrong crowd and left Vancouver in 1989 to come here.I met a woman who I was with for 3 years but then over with.In 92 I met the mother of my child who unfortunately passed away in 2004. The kids and I are getting along and having them in my life is TRULY a BLESSING, I am not sure how I would do this without them.So that is the shortest version I can think of.Peace to all!!!!! Want to shout out to all who knew us ( Greg 1956-1982 Janice who is now in Alberta and married and Brian/Tony who is in the forces and now in Ottawa and married. We all attended and some of us even graduated LOL Hi to Randy Brown remember the A-BOMB,what a laugh that science fair was.Hi to Lance I think I remember you ,so many I dont remember.Enough for now ya want to chat or talk I will be here or maybe we will meet up in this chat room. Sincerely Darrell Rayfuse
